Mersen Surge Protector Type 2+3 SPD 2 Pole 120 Volt 10KA TNS Remote Indication
MPN: 83230115
Alt. SKU: STPT23-20K150V-2PM
Why Choose the Mersen 83230115 Surge Protection Device?
The Mersen 83230115 is a compact and reliable Type 2+3 surge protection device (SPD) designed to protect low-voltage electrical installations from transient overvoltages caused by lightning activity and electrical switching events. Part of the Mersen Surge-Trap® Pluggable STPT23 Series, it provides dependable fine surge protection for industrial, commercial and OEM electrical systems.
This 2-pole pluggable SPD is designed for 120 V AC single-phase TNS systems using a 2+0 configuration. It includes remote indication, allowing the SPD status to be monitored from control circuits, alarm systems or building management systems without opening the enclosure.
With a 20 kA maximum discharge current (Imax), 10 kA nominal discharge current (In) and a 150 V AC maximum continuous operating voltage (Uc), the Mersen 83230115 is suitable for protecting control panels, PLCs, power supplies, instrumentation and sensitive electrical equipment connected to 120 V AC systems.

Reliable Surge Protection with Remote Status Monitoring
Surge protection devices help stop damaging transient overvoltages from reaching sensitive electrical equipment by safely diverting surge energy away from connected loads. This helps reduce the risk of equipment failure, nuisance faults, data loss and unplanned downtime.
The Mersen 83230115 is designed for panel-mounted surge protection in 120 V TNS electrical installations. Its pluggable construction supports quick replacement, while the remote indication contact provides useful visibility for preventative maintenance and system monitoring.
Typical Applications
- Industrial control panels.
- Commercial electrical distribution boards.
- 120 V AC TNS electrical systems.
- PLC and automation equipment.
- Power supplies and instrumentation circuits.
- OEM machinery and panel building applications.

Protection system of coordinated stages: Type 1, 2 and 3 SPDs
The SPDs of a surge protection system must be able to withstand the discharged current and provide a Ures level (residua l voltage) lower than the Ue peak voltage that the equipment can withstand. Most of the times it is not possible to achieve this with just one SPD, especially because the intensity of the surge is not known, and because of the induction of overvoltages when conductors exceed 10m.
The optimal system of protection is the 3-STEP approach, in which successive stages are combined in the performance of high discharge capacity devices and devices with an optimal voltage protection level (low). This is addressed by the definition of "Types" or "Classes" of SPDs according to the type of transient pulses to which each protected zone in the installation is subject to.
