Frequently Asked Questions

What does Type 1+2 surge protection mean?

Type 1+2 surge protection devices provide combined protection against direct lightning strikes (Type 1) and switching surges (Type 2), ensuring comprehensive safeguarding of electrical installations.

Can this device be used in three-phase systems?

No, this specific device is designed for single-phase systems with neutral line protection. For three-phase systems, appropriate multi-pole devices should be selected.

How does the indication system work?

The device features a green indicator when operational. If the indicator is not green, it signals that the device needs replacement to maintain protection effectiveness.

Is the device RoHS compliant?

Yes, the STPT12-50K-N is RoHS compliant, ensuring it meets environmental and safety standards.

Protection system of coordinated stages: Type 1, 2 and 3 SPDs

The SPDs of a surge protection system must be able to withstand the discharged current and provide a Ures level (residua l voltage) lower than the Ue peak voltage that the equipment can withstand. Most of the times it is not possible to achieve this with just one SPD, especially because the intensity of the surge is not known, and because of the induction of overvoltages when conductors exceed 10m.

The optimal system of protection is the 3-STEP approach, in which successive stages are combined in the performance of high discharge capacity devices and devices with an optimal voltage protection level (low). This is addressed by the definition of "Types" or "Classes" of SPDs according to the type of transient pulses to which each protected zone in the installation is subject to.
