ABB OT and OT PLUS Disconnectors: The LED Controls Guide

What are ABB OT Disconnectors?
ABB OT Disconnectors are manually operated switch-disconnectors designed to isolate your electrical circuits visibly and safely. When the switch is off, the internal contacts physically separate, giving engineers and maintenance teams the confidence to lock off and service equipment without risk of electrocution. Read more about ABB OT Disconnectors here.
Where and when are OT Disconnectors used?
You will find OT disconnectors wherever electrical circuits need a safe and dependable method of isolation. Typical applications include:
- Main isolation for control panels
- Motor isolation for pumps, fans, compressors and machinery
- HVAC isolators for rooftop units and plant rooms
- Distribution board incomers and outgoers
- Isolation for generator and UPS systems
- Local isolators for building services equipment
- Anywhere lockable, mechanically secured isolation is required
- Solar PV installations.
Because OT disconnectors are mechanically interlocked, robust, and intuitive to operate, they suit both industrial and commercial environments.

Why ABB OT Disconnectors stand out
- Unified design across all current ratings, helping standardise panel layouts
- High AC and DC switching performance appropriate for a wide range of loads
- Long mechanical life thanks to robust internal construction
- Flexible pole configurations including 3-pole and 4-pole variants
- Consistent accessory system with handles, shafts, shrouds and auxiliary contacts
- Choice of mounting styles such as base-mount (F), DIN-rail mount (G) and door-mount (FT, GT)
- Compact overall dimensions for easy integration in tight panels

| OT125F4N2 | 125 A | 4-pole | Ideal for medium-sized installations needing full neutral isolation, such as packaged HVAC units or small incomers. |
| OT160E33CP | 160 A | 6-pole | A change-over switch for generator systems, dual supplies or redundancy setups (I-0-II operation). |
| OT160E04YP | 160 A | 4-pole | A bypass switch, perfect for UPS, drive maintenance, or systems needing uninterrupted supply during servicing. |

ABB OT PLUS - The next generation of manual switch-disconnectors
ABB OT PLUS Disconnectors are the next evolution of the OT range, building on the proven OT platform while introducing improvements in safety, flexibility, sustainability and ease of installation. The goal of OT Plus is simple: make isolation safer and panel building faster, while reducing energy losses and material impact.
OT Plus disconnectors are particularly well suited to contemporary distribution boards, building services panels, OEM machinery and infrastructure projects where consistency and performance matter.
What makes OT Plus different from standard OT?
- Pole flexibility. OT Plus models are available in 3-pole, 4-pole, 6-pole and 8-pole configurations within the same family. This makes it much easier to design multi-circuit or full four-wire isolation without moving to a completely different product.
- Adjustable neutral behaviour. In 4-pole versions, the neutral pole can be configured for simultaneous switching or early-make and late-break operation. This is especially useful in installations where neutral continuity is critical.
- Efficiency and sustainability. The design reduces power losses during operation and uses a higher proportion of recycled materials compared with earlier generations. This supports energy-efficient panel design and helps meet sustainability targets.
- Improved ergonomics and faster installation. The switches support multiple mounting styles, modern handle designs and a simplified accessory system, allowing the same base unit to be adapted easily for different enclosures and layouts.
ABB OT Plus range variants overview

Frame sizes
- G1 frame: smallest size, covering lower current applications from 16 A to 63 A.
- G2 frame: mid size, mid range, covering 63 A to 100 A.
- G3 frame: largest size, for higher current applications from 30 A to 160 A.
All OT Plus Disconnectors are designed to fit a standard 35 mm Din Rail, even though the devices become physically larger as higher current ratings require larger conductors, stronger contacts and higher thermal performance. This means G3 units will take up more space on the rail than G2, and G2 more than G1, even if the pole count is the same.
Current rating range
ABB OT Plus switch disconnectors cover a wide current range from 16 A up to 160 A. Overlapping current ratings between frame sizes give additional flexibility depending on your application, from small control circuits through to main distribution and industrial power applications.
Pole configurations
- 3-pole for standard three-phase systems where neutral switching is not required.
- 4-pole for full isolation including the neutral and use a true fourth pole rather than an add-on.
- 6-pole variants are typically used where additional circuits or auxiliary feeds need to be isolated alongside the main phases.
- 8-pole for more complex control or multi-circuit applications.
On 4-pole and higher variants, the fourth pole timing can be adjusted to allow either simultaneous switching or early-make, late-break operation, which is useful where neutral continuity is important.
Common features across the range
All OT Plus switch disconnectors share a consistent set of features, regardless of frame size or pole count. These include high mechanical endurance, clear ON and OFF indication, padlockable handles for safe lock-off during maintenance, and terminal designs that support reliable long-term connections.
Selected models are available with quick-spring terminals to speed up installation, while higher current devices use screw terminals designed for larger conductor sizes.
