Unitronics FAQS

1. What's the difference between B1 and B7 series?

The B1 series provides cost-effective V/F or sensorless vector control up to 110 kW, ideal for general-purpose applications. The B7 series adds advanced features: closed-loop control, Ethernet, STO safety, LCD keypad with wizard, and broader power range (up to 500 kW) .

2. Can I control multiple motors?

Yes — using UniLogic you can configure and monitor up to 32 VFDs, enabling synchronised motion and complex multi-drive applications.

3. Which motor types are supported?

B1 supports induction motors; B7 supports both induction and permanent-magnet synchronous motors in both open-loop and closed-loop modes.

4. Is STO safety certified?

Yes — B7 includes SIL2-rated Safe Torque Off functionality, and the series is TÜV‑SÜD, CE, UL, and cUL certified.

5. What communication options are available?

All models include Modbus RTU over RS‑485. B7 supports Ethernet communication via optional cards, including Modbus‑TCP, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and CANopen.

6. Can I monitor a drive via HMI or software?

Yes — you can control and debug drives in real-time using UniStream HMIs or UniLogic software, including the Scope Trace graphical tool for troubleshooting.

7. How much energy can I save?

VFDs precisely adjust motor speed to the operational demand, minimising energy waste. The closed-loop control in B7 series also reduces overshoot, improving process efficiency and cutting lifecycle costs.

8. What mounting and protection features are available?

Units offer wall, flange, or rail mounting. Many models include built-in EMC filtering and braking units. Operating temperature ranges from –10 °C to +50 °C, with IP20 protection.

9. What's the maximum overload capacity?

Their robust design allows overloads up to 200% of rated current for 1 second, 180% for 10 seconds, or 150% for 60 seconds — perfect for handling transient loads.

10. Where can I buy and get support?

LED Controls stocks a range of Unitronics VSDs, including popular models like UMI‑1100EU‑B7 and UMI‑0007CU‑B1 — contact our technical team for advice, quotes, and next-day delivery in the UK.
