Standalone PLCs are ideal when you already have SCADA systems or remote operator panels, so there’s no need for an integrated HMI. They’re also a good fit when the control unit needs to be kept separate from the operator panel, such as in hazardous areas for safety or in harsh environments where the PLC needs to be protected inside a cabinet. Many retrofit projects also benefit from standalone PLCs, since space or cost constraints might rule out integrated designs.
