ABB SACE Emax 3 with Ekip Aware: More Than a Circuit-Breaker
An air circuit breaker (ACB) protects your electrical systems by automatically cutting the power supply when it detects dangers such as overloads, short circuits or earth faults. Unlike smaller circuit breakers, ACBs are designed to handle the high currents found in main power distribution systems. After a fault has been identified and made safe, the breaker can be reset and returned to service.
Alongside conventional circuit protection, Emax 3 features ABB's Ekip Aware electronic trip unit built-in. Ekip Aware turns the breaker into an intelligent info source capable of monitoring the electrical system and the breaker itself, giving you access to electrical measurements, protection settings, diagnostics and other data through the breaker's touchscreen interface, or via ABB's EPiC mobile app and Ekip Connect software.
Many additional capabilities can also be activated via software updates, allowing an Emax 3 installation to evolve as plant requirements change without expensive and time-consuming hardware replacements.
Predictive Maintenance: A Switch in Time
Emax 3 utilises advanced condition monitoring and predictive maintenance to ensure any downtime is planned and prepared for. The system monitors information including breaker operating history, internal temperature and environmental conditions, and uses this info to generate a breaker health index and calculate maintenance dates. An unexpected breaker failure could halt an entire process, damage equipment or even put your team at risk, so don't leave your maintenance schedule to chance!
Built With Emax 2 Upgrades in Mind
ABB has deliberately maintained key mechanical characteristics from Emax 2, including dimensions, mounting arrangements and power and auxiliary connections. RELT, Reduced Energy Let-Through protection, provides a maintenance mode designed to clear faults more rapidly and reduce potential incident energy. Ekip Aware gives a clear visual indication when the protection is active - either via the unit's HMI or your external signalling device - and suitable configurations can allow activation through ABB's EPiC app.
ABB Emax 3 also offers integrated arc-flash detection, using light and pressure sensing to identify an arc event and initiate rapid clearing. External remote racking is available across the range, with an embedded RRD-E solution available for E4.3 and E6.3.
